Thom's Mini Review: Surprisingly good image quality, but a wide range of handling and feature limitations hold this camera back from what it could be. In initial shooting I've found my J1 to be robust and up to a tough beating--I didn't coddle my camera during a recent three week International excursion, yet it shows no sign of wear and performed as expected the entire time. But be careful that the J1 does everything you need it to: Nikon has made a curious set of distinctions between the J1 and V1 models (see my J1/V1 specification difference FAQ). For a non-feature obsessed user who just wants some basic performance (read: soccer mom), the J1 may serve that user well.
