Sony E and FE Lenses

Sony calls their mount for NEX lenses the E-mount. The original E-mount has a 1.5x angle of view crop compared with 35mm and full frame cameras. With the original NEX cameras Sony announced three lenses (18-55 kit, 18-200mm, and 16mm), and has since supplemented that with several additional lenses. A number of other companies have announced support for the NEX mount, including Sigma and Zeiss.

Sony has publicly disclosed a road map for future E-mount lenses, which included the following still unannounced E lenses:

  • Zeiss high performance zoom
  • Medium telephoto prime

In October 2013 Sony announced full frame NEX models (A7, A7r), and a variation on the mount, called the FE-mount. Physically the same as the E-mount, you can mount E-mount lenses on FE bodies and FE-mount lenses on E bodies, but there may be cropping and/or vignetting with the former and there will be cropping with the latter. The FE-mount roadmap of unannounced lenses looks like this (in order of likely introduction):

  • 70-200mm f/4 G OSS (2014)
  • 16-35mm f/4 Zeiss OSS (2014) (announced May 1, 2014)
  • 85mm f/1.8 Zeiss OSS (2014)
  • 100mm f/2.8 Macro G (2014)
  • 35mm f/1.4 Zeiss (2014)
  • 24mm f/2 Zeiss (2014)
  • 28-135mm f/4 G OSS (2015) (announced May 1, 2014)
  • 135mm f/2 Zeiss (2015)
  • 21mm f/2.8 Zeiss (2015)
  • 35mm f/2 G OSS (2015)
  • 50mm f/1.2 Zeiss (2015)
