NEX Viewfinders

Sony makes two viewfinders that plug into the accessory slot on the various NEX-3 and NEX-5 models:

  • The FDA-SV1 is an optical viewfinder that mimics the 16mm lens angle of view. It's easy to see with eyeglasses due to the long 15mm eyepoint, and it's multicoated to cut down glare. US$200.
  • The FDA-EV1S is an electronic viewfinder (EVF) that works only with the NEX-5N. This is essentially an external version of the EVF that's in the NEX-7 camera, and features a half-inch 2400k dot OLED display with a 3500:1 contrast ratio. A -4 to +1 diopter adjustment is available for sight correction. The viewfinder can be flipped from its normal horizontal position to a 90 degree vertical position (it does not rotate). Note that the viewfinder draws power from the camera to operate, so battery life will be diminished. US$350.
