Compact Stereo Microphone

This is a small and light (1.5 ounces, 40g) unit that clips into the accessory port on the top of a NEX-3, NEX-3C, NEX-5, or NEX-5N camera and provides a stereo audio capture for video. Comes with a small wind screen and runs from power off the camera.

Thom's Mini Review: I wasn't expecting much out of this microphone, as Sony doesn't provide much in the way of specifications or details about it. I was pleasantly surprised to find it capable of getting good audio in very difficult situations. It has a bit more forward sensitivity than I expected from looking at the grills, but it still covers a wide angle, so in noisy group environments (crowded parties) you won't be singling out the subject in front of you. Also note that the unit directly mounts to the camera and doesn't have any isolation from camera handling noises. The NEX accessory port is a pain in the butt to move things on and off of, and the thumb wheel to tighten down an option like the microphone is difficult for those with big hands/fingers to access. The good news is that there is no cable hanging out to get caught on something. I just leave my microphone on the camera most of the time. It's small enough that it doesn't really impact handling, though it might impact the size bag you need slightly. Note that the NEX models have no other convenient way of adding a better microphone. Recommended (but barely)
